Biografie

Geboren 1981 in Gdynia (Polen), erlangte Wojtek Blecharz 2006 an der Frédéric Chopin Musikakademie in Warschau einen Master of Arts mit Auszeichnung. 2015 promovierte er an der University of California San Diego in Komposition.
Seit 2012 kuratiert Blecharz das Musikfestival Instalakcje für nichtkonzertanter Musik im Warschauer Nowy Theater und präsentiert dort Klanginstallationen, Performance-Installationen, Klangskulpturen, Musikvideos, Musiktheater und anderes. Auch in seiner eigenen Musik entwickelt er neue Präsentationsformate, wie zum Beispiel seine Operninstallationen, in denen er vielfach selbst als Regisseur wirkte.
In dieser Konstellation entstanden die Operninstallationen Transcryptum (2013) für die Grand Theater National Opera Warschau, Park-Opera (2016, Theater Powszechny Warschau) und Body-Opera (2016, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival). Für das Staatstheater Darmstadt schrieb er 2018 die Oper FIASKO. Zuletzt entstand seine Rechnitz.Opera für sechs Schauspieler und vier Celli, basierend auf Elfriede Jelineks Text Rechnitz (Der Würgeengel) im Auftrag des Warschauer Herbst 2019.

Seine wichtigsten aktuellen Arbeiten sind die Installation Axis für Rhythmusgeneratoren, analoge Synthesizer und Cello, das Musiktheater SOUNDWORK für acht Schauspieler und die Konzertinstallation House of Sound. Im Oktober 2016 nahm Blecharz an der 15-tägigen Installation von Ari Benjamin Meyers im Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin teil und komponierte täglich 4 Stunden lang im Museum in der Öffentlichkeit.

Zuletzt entstanden zudem Werke für das Kwadrofonik Ensemble (Warschau), Forbidden City Chamber Orchestra (Peking), Klangforum Wien (Wien), Royal String Quartet (Warschau), Aviva Endean (Melbourne), ICE International Contemporary Ensemble (New York), Musiques Nouvelles (Brüssel), Ensemble KNM (Berlin) und andere. Weitere Arbeiten wurden unter anderem aufgeführt beim Warschauer Herbst, der Salzburger Biennale, im Museum of Modern Art in Tel Aviv, im Bendigo International Festival of Exploratory Music (Australien), beim MATA Festival und dem Mostly Mozart Festival (New York), bei der Klangwerkstatt (Berlin), beim Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (England) und bei den Rainy Days (Luxemburg) aufgeführt.

Neben verschiedenen anderen Auszeichnungen und Nominierungen erhielt 2012 Blecharz einen Stipendienpreis für Komposition bei den Internationalen Ferienkursen für Neue Musik in Darmstadt und wurde 2013 als einer der Gewinner des Internationalen Kompositionswettbewerbs IMPLUS in Graz ausgewählt. Im Jahr 2015 wurde das Theaterchorstück M(other) Courage unter Regie von Marta Górnicka mit Musik von Wojtek Blecharz am Staatstheater Braunschweig als eine der besten 60 Aufführungen in Deutschland ausgezeichnet. Von der Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung erhielt er 2017 den Auftrag für sein Stück other states_horizon für 16 Performer und 16 drahtlose Lautsprecher für das Collegium Novum Zürich.

Biography

Born in Gdynia (Poland) in 1981, in 2006 Wojtek Blecharz graduated with honors from Frederic Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw (Master of Arts). In 2015 he received a Ph. D. in music composition at University of California San Diego.
Since 2012 Blecharz has been curating the Instalakcje Music Festival at Warsaw’s Nowy Theater, featuring non-concert music: sound installations, performance installations, sound sculptures, music videos, music theater and others. Blecharz has also directed three of his opera-installations: Transcryptum (2013), commissioned by Grand Theater National Opera in Warsaw, Park-Opera (2016), commissioned by Theater Powszechny in Warsaw, and Body-Opera, commissioned by Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (2016).
In 2018 he composed the opera FIASKO, commissioned by Staatstheater Darmstadt, in 2019 Rechnitz.Opera for six actors and four cellos, based on Elfriede Jelinek’s text Rechnitz (Der Würgeengel), commissioned by Warsaw Autumn Festival and TR Warszawa.

His major recent works are: the installation Axis for rhythm generators, analog synthesizers, and cello, commissioned by the Goethe Institute in Warsaw and the Polish Institute in Berlin; the music theater SOUNDWORK for eight actors, commissioned by TR Warszawa; the concert installation House of Sound commissioned by Małopolski Ogórd Sztuki in Cracow. In October 2016 Blecharz was participating in Ari Benjamin Meyers’ 15-day installation at Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin, composing daily for 4 hours at the museum in public.

Recently Blecharz composed pieces for Kwadrofonik Ensemble (Warsaw), Forbidden City Chamber Orchestra (Beijing), Klangforum Wien (Vienna), Royal String Quartet (Warsaw), Aviva Endean (Melbourne), ICE International Contemporary Ensemble (New York), Musiques Nouvelles (Brussels), Ensemble KNM (Berlin) and others. His works were performed at Warsaw Autumn Festival, Salzburg Biennale, Museum of Modern Art in Tel Aviv, Bendigo International Festival of Exploratory Music (Australia), MATA Festival (New York), Mostly Mozart Festival (New York), Klangwerkstatt (Berlin), Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (England), Rainy Days (Luxembourg) and others.

In 2012, he received a scholarship prize for composition at the International Summer Courses for New Music in Darmstadt, and in 2013 he was selected as one of winners of the IMPLUS International Composition Competition in Graz. In 2012 he was nominated for the Passport Award for classical music of the Polityka Weekly, in 2013 for the PKN Orlen Prize Poles with Verve in Art and Culture as well as for to the Polish Radio Channel 3’s yearly award Culture Man of the Year. In 2013 his opera Transcryptum was nominated for Cultural Event of 2013 in the Gazeta Wyborcza Daily referendum Wdechy. In 2015 a theater/choir piece with Blecharz’s music Musik M(other) Courage, directed by Marta Górnicka and commissioned by Staatstheater Braunschweig, was acclaimed as one of the best 60 performances in Germany. In 2016 Blecharz received a music theater award for the Best Performance of Contemporary Play (Warsaw/Wałbrzych).
In 2017 he received a commission, financed by Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung, to compose his piece other states_horizon for 16 performers and 16 wireless speakers for Collegium Novum Zürich.
